Great Comp Garden

Set in undulating countryside in the heart of the Garden of England, Great Comp Garden has built up an enviable reputation among garden lovers as one of the finest gardens in the South East.

83 examples of 52 different types of Magnolias, wonderful Azaleas and Rhododendron's make this garden's spring display unrivalled. Home to one of the finest collection of Salvias in Europe, the summer at Great Comp literally bursts with colour while the Autumn provides a mellow space for contemplation.

Created by Roderick and Joy Cameron in 1957 and filled with conifers, azaleas, heathers, camellia glades and ancient ruins, the garden has been updated by curator William Dyson and his team in the last few years to showcase his enviable collection of Salvias. The garden set against the beautiful backdrop of the 17th century manor house also holds popular events including specialist plant fairs, outdoor theatre, art and music events.

After exploring the Italian Garden and marvelling at the borders surrounding the formal lawn, the Old Dairy Tearooms provide for a wonderful stop off point for lunch or a cream tea.
